THE HISTORY OF THE ROOTS MUSIC PROJECT
and it's predecessor
THE CROSSROADS MUSIC PROGRAM

The Crossroads Music Program first aired on WSDS AM
1480 on Tuesday July 8th, 2003. Over the course
of the next two years the CRMP took AM radio and
Southeastern Michigan by storm. Offering an eclectic
mix of roots music including Country (both Old & Alt),
Blues, Bluegrass, Gospel, Folk, R&B, Jazz , Rockabilly
and Rock & Roll.

Hosted by Jeremy Baldwin and produced by Kurt Anshuetz
the show recreated radio “the way it used to be”, that
is fun, creative and spontaneous. Bad jokes, checks
of the weather in Maui, birthday sing-a-longs to
luminaries like Leonard Cohen and good music were the
norm. The program also had a deep devotion to the
roots and stories behind American music. This
included lively on air interviews with artists such as
Graham Parker, Jon Langford, Robbie Fulks, Bobby Bare
Jr. and more. Jeremy’s philosophy is that “recorded
music is good, but live music is even better” , so the
program also presented a variety of great acts
performing live in WSDS’s historic Studio “C”
including The Old Crow Medicine Show, The Crooked
Jades, Jason Ringenberg, Eleni Mandell and more.

On June 1, 2005 after more than 40 years of Country
Music WSDS switched formats to 24 hour Spanish
language programming and The CRMP went off the air.

In December 2005, Jeremy Baldwin reemerged to host
The Roots Music Project on WEMU 89.1. The program
continues the tradition of great music presented with
context, playfulness and passion. Tune in every
Saturday from 12-2pm EST on 89.1 FM or on the web at:
